Democracy, Trust, and Truth

Strengthening democracy through research, action, and civic dialogue

The University is committed to advancing democracy, truth, and trust, recognizing these pillars as essential to society.

Penn’s work in this area spans research, education, policy, and community engagement. The Penn Center on Media, Technology, and Democracy unites six schools to conduct empirical research on digital media’s influence on democratic processes, while creating near real-time tools to navigate today’s complex media landscape. Penn’s Annenberg Center for Public Policy within the Annenberg School for Communication has built Factcheck.org to help individuals unpack and discern the truth in media stories. Initiatives like the SNF Paideia Program and the Netter Center for Community Partnerships prepare students to engage constructively across political, cultural, and social divides. These efforts and more are part of Penn’s overarching vision to support democracy, trust, and truth in the world.
