Morris Arboretum & Gardens

Morris Arboretum & Gardens is one of the region’s top garden destinations, an urban oasis, and a living laboratory for research and learning about the interrelations among plants, people, and place.

We look forward to a new era of institutional growth, as outlined in the Morris’s first comprehensive site plan in more than 40 years. Enhanced visitor amenities, new garden features and immersive experiences, a robust research program, and expanded outreach and access initiatives will engage and inspire a broad and growing audience.

Highlighted Priorities

  • Transform the visitor experience with new amenities and immersive features that invite exploration and connection with nature, whether for longtime members or first-time guests.
    • Wetland Walk: A dynamic new landscape experience highlighting the beauty and importance of wetland ecosystems.
    • Hill & Cloud Garden: A tranquil garden designed to inspire reflection and awe.
  • Invest in the next chapter of Morris’s Plant Science Research program, which seeks to address issues of climate change, sustainability, and environmental stewardship through innovation and discovery.
    • New Plant Science Lab for research and collaboration.
    • Expanded research team supporting new scientific talent.
    • Nursery and propagation expansion to enhance our capacity to grow and preserve vital plant species.
  • Grow the endowment, to strengthen Morris’s future.
    • Establish a named endowment for the Director of Education—a pivotal role that enriches learning opportunities for children, adults, and horticultural professionals.

“The Morris Arboretum & Gardens continues to thrive because of our donors. It is a public green space, a living laboratory, and an urban oasis all at one time. With your support, we can ensure that the Morris grows greener and more vibrant with every passing year.”
