On October 21, 2022, M. Elizabeth “Liz” Magill was inaugurated as Penn’s ninth president. Campus was buzzing with festivities during this historic occasion, which intersected with Homecoming Weekend, and was filled with traditions, celebrations, a concert featuring two of President Magill’s favorite musical artists, and much more.
History in the Making
Penn ushered in a new era with the inauguration of Liz Magill, the University’s ninth president, while Homecoming events added to the celebratory mood
Dressed in traditional academic regalia, Penn deans, faculty members, senior administrators, student leaders, and other invited guests joined President Magill in an academic procession to Irvine Auditorium.
The Inauguration Ceremony included a welcome from Trustees Chair Scott L. Bok, as well as President Magill’s inaugural address—in which she urged the Penn community to not only meet the moment, but to make it.
The Inauguration Day picnic and concert on College Green included locally-made food, giveaways, and live music by Sheryl Crow and Jeff Tweedy.
Other events from Inauguration and Homecoming Weekend included a walk with Penn’s presidential dog—Olive, the Penn Relays 5K, myriad opportunities to experience arts & culture on campus, a Penn football win over Yale, and so much more.
