For Carly Crist Hutchison, W’16, W’22, and Kent Hutchison, W’18, Penn is more than a place—it is the foundation of their shared story.

A New York City–based Penn alumni couple giving back to the University they love
As undergraduates, they first met through their involvement in Wharton Council and quickly formed a connection that grew into a life together rooted in community, friendship, and purpose. Those early experiences continue to shape their lives today and inspire their commitment to giving back.

“Penn is a special place that creates meaningful connections,” Kent shares. “Whether it’s a lifelong friend, a valued mentor, or a spouse, Penn is defined by the opportunity to meet new people and embrace new possibilities.”
The Hutchisons remain connected to the University through their involvement as alumni and their support of The Penn Fund. Carly serves on The Penn Fund Executive Board and has chaired both her 5th and 10th Reunion giving committees, while Kent participated as a Benjamin Franklin Society Chair for his 5th Reunion giving committee and continues to serve as a Regional Benjamin Franklin Society Representative in New York City. Together, they model the lasting impact of alumni engagement.
“We believe in paying it forward,” Carly says. “Philanthropy and volunteering help expand access, strengthen Penn’s incredible community of leaders, and ensure the best possible experience for today’s undergraduates.”
Every act of giving back contributes to a life-changing experience for current and future Quakers. “We hope to play a small role in making students’ daily lives better,” Kent adds.

For students hoping to stay connected after graduation, Carly and Kent emphasize the enduring warmth of the Quaker community. “Penn people are always open to reconnecting. Never be afraid to say hello or send a quick text, and plan trips back to Philadelphia.”
At its heart, the Penn experience is defined by connection. Through giving back, volunteering, and staying engaged, alumni like the Hutchisons help ensure that Penn remains a warm and welcoming community for generations to come.
