“For PennDesign faculty and students to be the ‘thought leaders’ in critical discussions, the School will need to attract and retain world-class professors who will foster an environment of creativity and leadership.”
– Matthew H. Nord
An eminent university is defined by the faculty who encourage and instruct the next generation. Matthew H. Nord’s, W’01, gift to support a Presidential Professorship at PennDesign will help ensure that the School is equipped with the visionaries to lead it into the future.
A Wharton 2001 graduate now working in finance, Matt has always been drawn to PennDesign’s multi-disciplinary approach. He established a scholarship at the School in 2010. His latest commitment will help further strengthen PennDesign as it embarks upon its second century.
“Now is a promising time at PennDesign,” Matt says. “Its curriculum sits at the intersection of so many important global topics such as urbanization, environmental sustainability, and the role of technology. I felt that establishing a Professorship would have a tangible impact on shaping the growth and direction of the School.”
Matt has long held an interest in architecture and even minored in art history as an undergraduate. Serving as an Overseer at the School since 2012 has allowed him to continue pursuing these interests while remaining meaningfully engaged with the University.
“I think of my involvement with PennDesign as an opportunity to continue my own learning as well as being able to interact with Penn alumni with different backgrounds,” Matt says. “I am proud to say that the friendships I have developed and my ability to get involved have exceeded all expectations.”
