The Spring 2017 Scholarship Celebration will take place on April 4, 2017 in New York City.
This past November 16, nearly 600 students, alumni, friends, University leadership, and parents gathered in Penn’s John R. Rockwell Gymnasium for the largest Scholarship Celebration in the University’s history. What began as a small dinner 20 years ago has grown into one of the hallmarks of the Undergraduate Named Scholarship Program.
Students enjoyed the opportunity to share with scholarship supporters gratitude for the transformative impact of their gift—a Penn education. This year’s event also celebrated the outstanding progress towards Penn’s ambitious $600 million undergraduate financial aid goal, and Penn’s status as the largest university in the United States with an exclusive grants-based financial aid program.
The Fall 2016 Scholarship Celebration featured President Amy Gutmann and George Weiss, W’65, HON’14, PAR’89, PAR’93, and seniors Edgar, C’17, and Shabnam, W’17, C’17, who shared their experiences as Penn scholarship students. The audience listened, enrapt, as both students recounted their individual journeys to Penn, stories from their student lives, and their plans for the future—the culmination of their hard work and the opportunity afforded them by the generosity of their scholarship supporters.
Penn’s unwavering commitment to affordability is made possible by the support of generous scholarship donors, and guarantees access to the University for those remarkable students—in this generation and in future ones—who aspire to challenge themselves with a world-class education.
