If you call the United Kingdom home, you can still support Penn’s mission to bring the benefits of research, teaching, and service to individuals and communities around the world.
Tax and Gift Aid
For the benefit of our alumni and friends in the United Kingdom, Penn maintains The University of Pennsylvania (USA) Foundation Ltd. It is recognized by the United States Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and by the Charity Commission for England and Wales as a UK-registered charity. Gifts made to the Foundation are tax-deductible for US taxpayers to the full extent of US tax code and may also provide tax benefits to UK taxpayers, including participation in the UK Gift Aid scheme.
The Gift Aid scheme increases the value of an eligible gift by allowing the Foundation to reclaim the basic rate UK tax on the gift.
For gifts made on or after 6 April 2011, the Foundation can reclaim 25p for every equivalent £1 donated.
Gift Aid is employable if the amount of UK income tax and/or capital gains tax paid by the donor is equal to the basic rate UK tax the Foundation is reclaiming on the gift.
For US taxpayers, any Gift Aid reclaimed as part of a gift to Penn is US tax deductible. The university will prepare a receipt specifying the full US dollar value (gift plus Gift Aid) of a gift for US tax purposes.
Gift Aid Is Online
You can now make a gift online from the United Kingdom and claim Gift Aid. Simply click on Give Now button at the bottom right corner of this web page, and when you enter a UK address, you will be able to make a gift in British Pounds (UK Pounds Sterling) and asked if you want to claim Gift Aid. If you agree, our UK Foundation will claim the Gift Aid on your behalf.
